About Jeevika

Jeevika is a community-based, long-term livelihood security project launched in response to the devastating earthquake, which shook northwestern India in January 2001. The project approach integrates various poverty reduction strategies into a comprehensive programme, which aims to build secure and sustainable livelihoods in a disaster prone and environmentally degraded region. Beneficiaries are at the centre of the project, and it is they who determine what, when and how development activities are implemented in their villages.
