Criteria for Identifying Poor

Porana Village

While mapping the villages, when the village is big, it becomes difficult to get the entire village information especially regarding the poor families. Thus we did village mapping as well as locality wise mapping. In the locality map, we marked which families are living in each of the localities and summarized the types of their houses clearly identifying what facilities they have and do not have in their houses. Two to three people who knew everything about their locality, involved in this exercise helped to know more about the poor families in their locality. This is one of the ways followed to identify poorest of the poor families. The localities of Porana villages and list of poorest of the poor families is as below:

Name of Locality
Number of Families
Ravalvaas
15
Thakervaas, Poraniyavaas
22
Tervadiyavaas
12
Kafesavaas
9
Thakorvaas, Jhapat paru
17
Navavaas
27
TOTAL
102

All present in the Gram Sabha were informed that the poorest of the poor family members could become a member of the Jeevika SEWA Mandal before forming the JSM. The reason behind is that if the poorest of the poor families are involved in the JSM then they can identify and represent their problems more effectively and practically, as they are also the sufferers. This is also a way to identify the poorest of the poor families.
