Social Development (Healthcare, Childcare, Education)

Jeevika implements a range of social development activities such as village child care programmes, Community Learning Centres, adult literacy classes (Jeevanshala) and healthcare awareness campaigns. The project conducts awareness campaigns to inform and educate villagers on what government health and childcare services should be available to them in orderto motivate villagers to demand the services they are entitled.

The project also collaborates with government development programmes to maximize the overall resources available to each village. Meetings are held on a regular basis with the Government of Gujarat’s District Health Officers to coordinate village-level health activities undertaken by both parties. Jeevika has arranged for vaccination programs to be implemented through government Primary Health Centres and mobile health vans, thus eliminating the need to set up a second clinic. This strategy was effectively deployed in response to a recent Malaria outbreak.
